The Colonial Georgetown: Historic Civil War Hospital Transformed into 18 Luxury Condos in Georgetown’s East Village

A historic property in Georgetown that once served as a hospital for wounded soldiers during the Civil War is now being transformed into 18 luxury condos by premier Capital Region builder, Golden Eagle Group. The Colonial, as it is known, was originally built as a seminary for women in 1855 and later converted into a hospital by Union forces in 1862. After the Battle of Bull Run, Walt Whitman was known to have volunteered as a nurse at the hospital. This project is a rare opportunity to own a piece of American history with modern luxury.

“Since 1812, The Colonial has been a big piece of Georgetown’s history, our main objective in redeveloping the property is to bring it back to its formal glory and make it a historic landmark once again. This to me is the most important part of the project,” says Mr. Irfan Totonji, CEO and Co-Founder of Golden Eagle Group.

The condos will feature luxury on-trend finishes: exposed brick walls, outdoor terraces, individual storage rooms, and most importantly, parking spaces on a first come first served basis. The one and two bedroom units will offer spacious floor plans with high ceilings, hardwood floors, open, gourmet kitchens, spa-like baths, and smart home technology including Google Nest video doorbells, thermostats, and smoke detectors. Twelve of the 18 units will have private terraces with views of the Potomac River and the Washington Monument.

“The Golden Eagle team is honored to have been the conservator of the Colonial, a true icon in Georgetown’s historical landscape. We have taken every effort to create a thoughtful renovation that seamlessly blends modern amenities with the charm and character of the Colonial’s history.” – Abduljabar “Jabs” Totonji, Chief Investment Officer

The Colonial condos will preserve the rich history and architectural heritage of the property by maintaining original woodwork, moldings, arches, and restored large format windows. The Colonial is located in one of the most desirable locations in Georgetown’s East Village, nearby several of the grandest estates in the District including Dumbarton Oaks, Evermay, and Tudor Place. The East Village also offers an easy walk to both Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, and their respective Metro Stations.
